FACING FACES - THE ART OF CATCHING ARTISTS - SEBASTIAN KRUEGER I
© H.K. / 1984 Portrait sequence with Sebastian Krüger
A Beginning
Encounters leave traces. ‘FACES’ captures some of them - one of them: Sebastian Krüger, a fellow student.
Sebastian and I met at the beginning of the 80s - initially twice during entrance exams to art colleges. His talent as a draughtsman was almost disturbingly clear. And yet - the mocking question from a professor: "How long are you going to keep doing that ...?"
The answer? A career that continues to this day - with success and attitude.
Art does not come out of nowhere. The surprising - the unpredictable, the biographical - are prerequisites. The teachers? Not infrequently mere marginal figures.
About the sequence: It shows Sebastian - initially saddened, then pausing, waiting for the next impulse, which he greets with a smile when it arrives.
