Crime Scene Studio - the Detective
Is the easel an interrogation room, the colour spectrum a witness stand?
Giso Westing's studio is not just about painting - it's about investigating. In the border area between intuition and analysis, Westing traces the echo of the visible in the indeterminate. In this way, colour valeurs become more than just nuances – they are clues to be recognised. Westing acts as a detective of the ductus, an investigator of the ambiguous. He translates colour into interpretation.
Are his paintings therefore crime scenes of poetic evidence? Do brushstrokes have the effect of a confession? Do his paintings have no titles, because titles allow us to pre-judge?
When colour is silent – Westing investigates patiently. At some point he makes them talk.
