Hanover got a Brit
Ernst August I, King of Hanover, leaves his own base monument pedestal on horseback for a flying visit to Göttingen.
The statue, created by Albert Wolff, which once showed him as a steadfast monarch, becomes an ironic allegory: the conservative ruler rides symbolically towards the end of anti-liberal thinking – a farewell to contemporary history. Ironically, the monument was only unveiled three years after his death.
