WHAT IS "SCULP-TOUR"

Reminiscence

Shortly after the turn of the millennium, I was commissioned to design and realise a website for the so-called Hanover Sculpture Mile. The aim was to present modern sculptures in the public space of the 20th century comprehensively and vividly online. A difficult task, especially for the then still young medium of the internet.

Not only was the project itself very specialised and extensive, but the technical conditions of the time also presented many difficulties and special features. The internet was still very slow and could not process large data packets. The site is still accessible today and is - by today's standards - an absolute disaster.

Intention

This intense experience has influenced my perception and reception of sculptures in public spaces: contemporary as well as historical, banal as well as epochal. With this in mind, I will present a series of images of my personal perception of sculptures, especially in my more or less immediate surroundings.

Dedication

Hanover has a rich history of sculpture that reflects the city's diverse stylistic influences and cultural developments over the centuries: from representative monuments to modern, often provocative works, the sculptures in Hanover's public spaces illustrate the changes in artistic expression and social values over time, from the Baroque to the modern era.

For me, these circumstances were the occasion for a personal journey from modernism to historicism to baroque. All seen through my eyes and with great respect for the protagonists, the artists who created these works. This series has been online since October 2023 and will be continued over time.

I warmly welcome you to Sculp-Tour. Let's start with: King On Journey ➜.
